CLIMATE CHANGE

AMSTERDAM - Despite the pouring rain, around 40,000 people from all over the Netherlands gathered at the famous Dam Square in Amsterdam to take part in a national climate march on Sunday.

Esther Leverstein, 21 years old, student in climate studies at the University of Amsterdam said, "I'm studying in climate, I'm studying future plans so then I thought 'Why not?', you know. This is why we are here, because of climate change. We need to do something about it and I think it's so good that all these people came because it's raining and you'd rather stay inside but everybody is so high-spirited. Everyone cares about this. It's not just your age, not your nationality… It's a global problem for everybody and we can all be part of the solution."

Gert van Rees, 72 years old, retiree said, "We are very concerned in regards to the future of the climate. We are really afraid that it will affect our situation dramatically. We have seven grand-children and sometimes we are really worried. So that's why we are here, it really should change."

Anneke Cuppen, 44 years old, manager in the education sector said, "The decisions they (the government) have to make, they have to make really… put some money in changes to save the climate and to make things better. There are things we can't do in the future, that we have to do with the country and especially with Europe."
