One killed, football players, fans injured in road accident

Arua - A tipper lorry carrying players and fans of Anyaparaka football club overturned on Saturday at Kamukamu corner, 10kms along Arua-Pawor road in Ajia Sub-county, killing the turn man of the lorry and injuring 42 players and fans of Anyaparaka FC.

10 of the injured rushed to Kuluva mission hospital are in critical condition while the body of the turn man whose identification is yet to be established was taken to Arua hospital mortuary.

The accident occurred at around 3pm when the players and fans were heading for a friendly match in Kuluva to play against Kuluva FC in Vurra Sub-county.

The friendly match was called off.

Santore Alekua, the former LC3 chairman of Ajia confirmed the accident and said the Lorry was carrying over 70 people.

According to Alekua, the vehicle involved in the accident is in bad mechanical condition.

Arua central police towed the lorry and parked it at the station. The driver of the vehicle took off and his way about are still unknown.
