Seven months after he was wrongly pronounced dead, five-time Uganda bodybuilding champion Ivan Byekwaso resurfaced in a live video chat on his Facebook page.

"I'm not a ghost. I'm still alive," Byekaswo said before bursting out in laughter. "Thank you, people, for your prayers; many people were wondering where I was, I was in prison here in Germany," Byekwaso who looked to have lost weight continued to narrate his ordeal.

He said he was imprisoned because of a love affair that went wrong, which had his would-be Ugandan lover that he met in Germany turn against him with a trumped-up rape case; not once but three times.

Byekwaso would have spent 12 years in prison upon conviction but was set free last week.

"I was framed by a fellow Ugandan who I cannot mention here because of the law. We started well but she started giving me a hard time by writing nonsense on my facebook page until I went to the Police and reported her.

"Afterwards she also reported to police that I had raped her in 2017 and that I was a big criminal, so I was imprisoned. There was fear that I could harm her if I remained free but thank God after the investigations I was found innocent," Byekwaso who appeared in the video with his two sisters said.

"I want to apologise to everyone for what befell me and I take the blame because I failed to take advice earlier because I thought I was dealing with a good person but she was bad hearted and I didn't take her threats to end my career seriously but she was determined.

"She was beautiful but with a black heart and it is good that her lies were eventually exposed. It was a sad and hard time for me because someone wanted to control my life but I realised the relationship would not work."

Last year, he posted pictures with a Germany girlfriend who he said he would marry later in the year before he was imprisoned.
