NAJEERA - Police have arrested a man claiming to be an Umeme employee after he was found with stolen household property in Kira municipality, Wakiso district.
Shemmy Buwembo was arrested at around 11:30 am Tuesday at Bulabira Cell in Kira municipality, Wakiso district after he reportedly entered into the house of Viola Kabubi and made off with household items.
The items included; a StarTimes 40-inch television, a laptop, a bag, and a knife, according to a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango.
According to Police, Buwembo, who was found with an identity card showing that he was a manager of Perfect Fumigation Company, tried to trick Kabubi's maid identified as Robinah Mirembe, claiming to be an employee of Umeme.
"He (Buwembo) had a form of Umeme which he gave to Mirembe to load units on line 0704542114 and as she moved out, Buwembo entered into the house and robbed a Star Times 40-inch Television, a laptop, a bag, a knife and all were recovered from his motor vehicle UAG 250K, a navy blue corona," said Onyango.
Onyango said Buwembo was arrested after the maid became suspicious of him and called the Police. He added that on alerted police, Detective Assistant Inspector of Police, James Mutaire, from Najjera police station visited the crime scene and found the stolen items in Buwembo's car upon searching it.
"Police found out that the suspect (Buwembo) is a common conman who tricks maids in the area as an Umeme official or a fumigator before he robs them," noted Onyango.
Onyango said a case of aggravated robbery has been opened up against Buwembo under reference number CRB 032/2019 at Najjera Police Station.
