CULTURE  TRADITION

Hundreds of Bafumbira people living in Kampala through their association Bafumbira World will this Friday, March 8 gather at Iwanza Bar and Resturant in Kampala for the celebration of their culture.

The event dubbed Bafumbira Quiz night will be punctuated by rare traditional dances, local drinks, questions about Kisoro's historical physical features among others.

"On March this year, Bafumbira has organised a Quiz night, it is not the first time we are having this, we had one last year which was a success.

"We shall have a quiz session in pursuit to connect to Kisoro where we come from as well as day today happenings nationally and globally," said Gilbert Rwalinda, the association's spokesperson.

Rwalinda said there will be questions about Bafumbira heritage, geographical features of Kisoro in relation to history of Kisoro.

"Bafumbira World stands for identity, networking and charity. Definitely, if we are talking of history, geographical features, that's identity. While we are doing this quiz night, we are also doing networking and re-uniting as Bafumbira," he stated.

The revellers shall also be treated to traditional poetry, also known as Kwivuga in Rufumbira which is a key traditional entertainment avenue among Bafumbira especially in families around fire places.

Launched in December 2016, the Bafumbira World among other objectives has brought together Kisoro people living in Kampala on how best they can solve social challenges in their areas.

Last year, they launched a Health Aging Initiative (HAI) aimed at bringing health insurance services to the elderly and since then a number of old people living in Kisoro have benefited from the programme.

On launch day, a number of Kisoro dignitaries such as AIGP John Ndungutse, the former counterterrorism director in Uganda Police,  Kisoro Woman MP, Rose Kabagyeni contributed funds to the initiative.

Meanwhile, the managing director, Iwanza Bar and Restaurant  said preparations to host such big numbers of revellers are underway.

"Our culture is to build a clientele who will enjoy services and come back. For the group we are hosting on March 8, we have some kind of special arrangement for them which we are trying to put in place," said David Tirwomwe, the company managing director.

He added: "I can say that we are 100% ready, in terms of numbers and products that we are going to offer them on that particular day."
