Are you a Ugandan woman working in any media house, be it radio, TV, print or online and interested in acquiring skills to help you advance your career? Here's an opportunity for you.

The World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) under its flagship leadership development programme, Women In News (WIN) is inviting women journalists from Uganda to apply for the 2019 media training programme.

The programme seeks to equip women media professionals in middle and senior management positions with the right skills, knowledge and attitudes to help advance their careers.

This is the first time Ugandan women journalists are able to join the programme, and becoming part of the WIN community.

To qualify for this program you should  be a media woman with a minimum of 2 years in a middle management position (editorial or a senior journalist) and be working in Uganda.

Applications can be sent to womeninnewseca@gmail.com .The deadline for application is on February 28. The programme will run from March to September 2019.

The WIN programme's Media Management training will be taken as an Online Media Management Foundation Course in association with Frayintermedia, which makes learning about media management a lot more exciting with the potential of reaching more people.

Successful applicants will undertake five modules that include, Leadership and Management, Change Management, Finance for non-Financial managers, Marketing and Advertising, Human Resources including newsroom processes.

They will be also expected to volunteer time in the mentoring of up and coming journalists in their markets as a way of giving back to their community.

Participants who demonstrate commitment to the WIN programme through completion of the online course, participation in National Gatherings, participation in all assigned coaching sessions and engagement with the Future Leaders programme may be considered for a Master Class Fellowship to do a Certificate in Media Management Studies with WITS University of South Africa.

While in previous years WIN has been accepting media women mostly from the print media, this year the call is being extended to even those in digital and electronic media.

Successful participants will be expected to travel on specific occasions throughout the programme.

WIN works with media companies and their high potential female employees to overcome the gender gap in management and senior management positions.

It provides them the support networks they need to take on a greater leadership role within their organizations and works with their organizations to create environments for high potential women to succeed.
