Two children killed by a fire in Kiryandongo

Its alleged that the mother to the deceased, identified as Dorcus Alum had left the children in the house alone.

 

TRAGEDY

 

KIRYANDONGO - Two children; 5-year-old Omal and 17-months-old Fortunate, have been killed by a fire that gutted their house in Karuma central cell, Karuma town council, Kiryandongo district Saturday night.

 

Its alleged that the mother to the deceased, identified as Dorcus Alum was not home.

 

The Karuma Central Cell LC1 chairperson, Joseph Oryem said the neighbours heard loud screams from the burning house but the fire was too intense for any rescue attempt.

Three other shacks were razed down by the fire destroying property worth millions of shillings.

 

The officer in charge of Karuma Police station C/ASP Alex Mutebi said investigations to establish the cause of the fire are underway.

 

He urged the community to always be watchful of their surroundings and also asked the women to stop leaving their children at home late in the night and also avoid use of candles.

 

The mother of the deceased fainted on hearing the news and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
