Jinja Hippos put up spirited fight to beat Plascon Mongers 24-12 in the Nile Special Premier Rugby League in Jinja on Saturday.

It was the biggest upset of the season so far and the defeat put Mongers in relegation territory.

I other matches, Hima Cement Heathens trounced Mulago Rams 39-3, Kobs were 28-3 winners over DusuPay Warriors, Rhinos beat Walukuba 64-5, while Pirates beat Buffaloes 30-0 at Kyadondo.

 Despite the win Pirates coach Bobby Musinguzi said his players have to work on ball handing and passing.  

 "We had several ball handling errors at the 22 yard which denied us over three tries. We have to address this before the second round because we want that trophy," Musinguzi noted citing the two passes of Haruna Muhamad and one from Raymond Emanzi that were knocked on.

Muhamad, Ivan Magomu, Brian Ochan, Raymond Emanzi and Isaac Rujumba managed a try each for the Pirates.

The win put Pirates third on the table with 28 points, seven behind Kobs in second and 9 behind leaders Heathens.
