Gov't asked to make Good Deeds Day a public holiday

Retired Maj. Gen. Benon Biraaro appealed to those who can help the needy to do so.

Members under the Good Deeds Day movement have asked the government to recognise the day and make it a public holiday.

The secretary of Good Deeds Day in Uganda, Resty Mutaawe said the day that s celebrated on April 7, Worldwide, should be recognised because it helps young people to learn how to help others and be responsible citizens.

She said currently over 100 organisations and companies are embracing Good Deeds Day. Good Deeds Day is a global movement started in Israel in 2001 by Dhari Arison.

Speaking during a meeting for members of the Good Deeds global movement, the Chief Executive Officer, Rabino Kaynan said those who have helped the disadvantaged need to be recognised.

He said Good Deeds Day has spread to over 100 countries for the benefit of others.

Retired Maj. Gen. Benon Biraaro appealed to those who can help the needy to do so.

He said Ugandans should think of sacrificing and loving neighbours, adding that it is good for the nation to come together to help others.

The Minister of Bulungi Bwansi and Gender in the Buganda Kingdom also urged the public to have a spirit of helping the needy and desist from grumbling.
