1000 needy families get Christmas packages

KAMPALA- They could not hide their smiles as they waited in line to receive their Christmas packages at Pneuma Word Ministries in Kyanja, a Kampala suburb in Nakawa division. 

The church gave out packages to 1,000 needy families from nine zones including; Kulambiro, Walufumbe, Nazareth, Kisaasi, Tuuba, Kandogolo, Kasana, Kyanja Central and Katumba.

The items  were worth over sh50m with each set having rice, cooking oil, salt and sodas.

While handing over items to the beneficiaries at the church, the Nakawa Division Mayor, Ronald Balimwezo thanked the Church for the gesture to support the needy.

The beneficiaries included the elderly, disabled, orphans, widows and the sick.

"This is an act of love. Many of these families are needy and need such support. Today you have given them a smile and hope," he said.

Balimwezo urged all churches to help in transforming people's lives in their localities.

"Apart from preaching the gospel, churches can help to transform people morally, economically," he noted.   

The head of the church, Prophet Brian Kagyezi said they worked with LCs in the various zones to identify the most needy families.

He said the "Feed a Thousand" initiative was meant to demonstrate the love of God with those in need in their neighbourhood and also give thanks to the Lord as a church.

He said the church also celebrated one year since it was founded.

 "One of our core values is care and so there is no better way to demonstrate the love of God like how God has enabled us to give and care for the neighbouring communities.

We wanted to share with them the joy of the Christmas season, because many go without a meal," he explained.

The Deputy Resident City Commisioner Nakawa, Hebert Burora said Pneuma's gesture is a social cause to support communities, that other churches must embrace.

"We want to work with churches to sensitise the public on various government programmes to fight poverty,"  he added.
