IGANGA - The leaked Police preliminary report into the murder of the Uganda Medical Association treasurer, Dr Ibrahim Gwaluka, indicates that, the plot to assassinate him was orchestrated inside a bar, located in Iganga town.

Gwaluka, who was also serving as medical superintendent at Kigandaalo Health Centre IV, in Mayuge district, was brutally murdered by two unidentified gunmen, at his home in Bulubandi B, Zone, located in Bukulumi-Nakigo Sub County, in Iganga district.

It is however, alleged that on the fateful day, the deceased was coming from Kaliro district, where he had gone to plant his eucalyptus seedlings. On his way back, he picked his wife, Jalia Namusabi who was waiting for him at ‘Mercy Clinic' in Jinja.

Namusabi is a professional lawyer and works with Ouma & Co. Advocates, located   in Jinja town.

The report adds that before executing their deadly mission, the assailants first took cover inside the deceased's nearby cassava plantation as they waited to see him back.

Hours later, the car registration number UAR 893N in which the deceased and his wife had travelled in arrived at their home on Friday evening.

Upon seeing them, the armed blood thirsty men quickly sneaked out of the cassava plantation and started shooting at them.

His front screen was smashed and blood stains spread all over the cushions, car boot and at the door.

The report further states that when the gunshots started, the deceased's wife identified as Jalia Namusabi opened the car door and she took off in fear for her dear life.

The gunmen prompted to run after her but they failed to catch up with her due to the speed at which she was taking off.

Investigations have also revealed that as the gunmen engaged in a running battle with the wife, little did they know that the doctor, whom they had shot and was lying in a pool of blood inside his car, was still alive.

Minutes later, the attackers heard the doctor fighting to catching up with words as he called for help.

This shocked them because they thought the doctor had already died. Without wasting time, they made a U-turn and shot him at a close range in the chest and breathed his last.

Although Police recovered three cartridges from the scene, the ballistic experts have not yet established the type of the gun that was used and the organization it belonged to, as well as the motive of the killers.

The report also explains that there were only two bullets that were shot at the front screen of the deceased's car out of the three that were used.

It also adds that the killer gun was recovered, and it is suspected to be the same gun that was used to kill Sheikh Dr Ali Muwaya Nkwanga, the father of the former Mayuge District LCV boss, Omar Bongo, in December, 2015.

It has also been established that killers left the scene through the maize garden located behind the deceased's house and later gained access to the main road where they jumped on a waiting bodaboda that took them towards Mayuge side.

Investigations into this matter continues under case file vide CRB; 1148/2018.
