Gen. Kayihura to spend Christmas in Kisoro

Gen. Kayihura was arrested on June 13 and was later charged in General Court Martial with two counts of failing to protect war materials and aiding the kidnap and repatriation of Rwandan nationals.

The former Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura is set to visit his home area Kisoro in forthcoming festive season, close sources have told Saturday Vision.

This visit, according to them, will be the first ever since the former Police chief was arrested from his upcountry home in Kashagama, Lyantonde district in June this year, before he was arraigned in military court.

Gen. Kayihura was arrested on June 13 and was later charged in General Court Martial with two counts of failing to protect war materials and aiding the kidnap and repatriation of Rwandan nationals.

The same court is headed by Lt.Gen. Andrew Gutti.

Kisoro people celebrated his release from the detention facility and to them it was a milestone. It's very common among Kisoro people to organise home coming ceremony for prominent persons, however, this time no event has been organised for Gen.Kale Kayihura, according to inner sources in Kisoro.

"He will come, but wants to take a low profile, so in that matter, we won't organise anything like a big event to welcome him; we are trying to respect what he wishes," said a source that met him last Sunday evening at his farm in Lyantonde.

The Kisoro district LC5 chairman Abel Bizimana told Saturday Vision: "We are skeptical about making another public gathering on his behalf because his detractors use them to start cases against him."

He said everyone in Kisoro would want to rejoice and be happy on "this important" milestone, but "we don't want to give an enemy the opportunity." Bizimana revealed that the former Police chief is at his upcountry home in Kashagama, Lyantonde.

"He is at Kashagama until he decides, but he told me that somehow, any time he will come home. He said he will come not to do any celebration, but coming as a Mufumbira," said Bizimana.

When pressed further, he said: "Of course I would want him to come, but I can't tell the exact time and day."
