Bagyenda requests Parliament to allow her travel for Christmas

KAMPALA - Former Executive Director for Supervision at the Central Bank Justine Bagyenda has requested parliament to allow her travel out of the country for Christmas.

The chairperson of the parliamentary committee on commissions, statutory authorities and state enterprises (COSASE) Abdul Katuntu (Bugweri County) told the committee on Friday that Bagyenda had written to him requesting to have her passports released to enable her arrange for her Christmas travel.

"I am yet to take a decision but before I do that, I need to clarify because these meetings must go on until we sort out these issues and from what I see, you are a very critical in this probe because the whole bank transaction were done through your office," Katuntu said.

"If it is just for Christmas then we can consider, but I need to make it clear colleagues that Mrs. Bagyenda should be around as long as we need her," he added.

Parliament early this month barred Bagyenda from travelling out of the country until investigations into the closure of the defunct banks is complete.

Bagyenda was directed by the committee to deposit her two passports to Parliament after she caused the committee "great inconvenience" when she suddenly travelled for close to two weeks without notifying the legislators prior to her trip, something that had angered the MPs.
