Bwanika also proved that his National Open heroics were not a one-off because he performed like he had an axe to grind on the table.

Mansoor Bwanika and Rashida Mutesi stood up to the challenge to emerge winners in the Kampala Pool Open at De Palace Lounge over the weekend.

18-year-old Mutesi was in lethal mood as she vaporised her more senior teammate at CKI Lydia Ayebazibwe by 6-1.

This was the third final in over a month that the young star has taken part in. Two of those, the national open included, were PAU sanctioned tournaments.

"I am very happy to win my first major title in a PAU sanctioned event because this is the third tournament in which I have been to a final in the last few weeks," the excited Mutesi remarked.

Her recent performances show a good upward curve in her development. Her consistency also shows that she is on the right track and she may just be the one to overthrow Ritah Nimusiima and Vicky Namuyanja from the throne.

Bwanika also proved that his National Open heroics were not a one-off because he performed like he had an axe to grind on the table.

He defeated teammate Azali ‘Hazard' Lukomwa by 7-3 to claim the Open and as things look Bwanika looks set to take over as the number one player in his age category.
