Hundreds of people, including children, participated in the run which was in categories of 2kms, 5kms and 10kms. The respective winners were given trophies and certificates.
The second vicar-general of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, the Rt Rev Msgr Dr Lawrence Ssemusu has asked Ugandans to be more charitable to the needy and disadvantaged persons. He singled out HIV infected/affected persons as some of the people who needed the love, care and generosity of others.
"Generosity is a Biblical requirement and also a mark of human civilization. If you hold on to your money and property, unwilling to give some of it to the needy, God will not give you more. But if you give away some of your money and property, God will have room to put more money for you."

Msgr Ssemusu made the remarks during the 3rd charity run of Reach Out Mbuya HIV/AIDS initiative, at Our Lady of Africa Catholic Church Grounds, Mbuya on Saturday (December 1).
Ssemusu later thanked those who participated in the charity run for their love and generosity, which he said needed to be emulated by others.

The acting executive director of the organisation, Lageri Marjorie Judith, said that the charity run was organised to celebrate World AIDS Day and also to raise funds for the education of orphans and vulnerable children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

A brief on Reach Out Mbuya
Reach Out Mbuya (ROM) is a Catholic Faith-Based Non-Governmental Organization that was started to stop further spread of HIV/AIDS, and to help those infected by HIV/AIDS to live a dignified and responsible life.

Since 2001, ROM has served nearly 10,000 clients with free comprehensive HIV/AIDS services ranging from medical, psycho-social, economic and spiritual support in urban Uganda.
ROM does this by educating individuals and the community about HIV/AIDS and providing holistic care to those infected by HIV/AIDS in the poor communities living in areas such as Nakawa, Kiswa, Giza Giza, Kinawataka, Acholi Quarters, Banda, Mutungo, Kasaala Parish in Luweero, and Korner Kilak in Nakaseke district among others.
Through initiatives like the charity run, ROM aims at raising sh200m, to support 400 children in primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
