Gulu senior sports officer commits suicide

His body was discovered by one of his daughters who found him lying bare chest with a rope around his neck.

The Gulu district senior sport officer Aldo Okot Otto has allegedly committed suicide.


The deceased's neighbour Ochola Oniba, who talked to radio Rupiny on Saturday morning, says Otto committed suicide by hanging himself on a Jackfruit tree in his compound in Pece Pawel, Pece  Division in Gulu Municipality. 

His body was discovered by one of his daughters who found him lying bare chest with a rope around his neck.

The daughter, whose name has been withheld on request, told people, who had gathered at the scene of the incident that her father told them on Friday night to go to bed and that he was the first person to go to bed.

She says she was shocked to find him dead, with a rope around his neck.

Dennis Ojwee, a friend to the deceased says he last saw Otto last evening and that he looked unhappy, frail and exhausted.

He had reportedly appeared before the Local Government probe committee investigating financial mismanagement in Pece Stadium. 

Ojwee added that Otto told him in Acholi language that Jami Tek which is translated as things are not easy.  

He is survived by two wives, six biological children, and several dependents.
