Five Kasese teachers killed in Rubirizi fatal accident

The deceased were knocked by a fast moving lorry and they died on spot.

TRAGEDY

KASESE - Tragedy befell the residents of Kasese on Saturday evening when news broke out that five teachers from the same school had perished in an accident.

The five teachers of Pearl Primary School in Kasese town on Saturday died in a motor accident at Rutoto trading centre in Rutoto sub-county in Rubirizi district.

It is alleged that the teachers who were travelling in a Toyota Noah registration number UAS 327Z were knocked by a fast moving truck at Rutoto.

The lorry truck loaded with sacks of beans and shop merchandize was coming from Mbarara, headed for Kasese town at the time of the accident, while the teachers were returning from Bushenyi.

Clovis Abigaba, who arrived shortly after the accident said he heard a loud bang from a distance and on arrival at the scene, he found the five teachers dead.

"We couldn't save them because they are all died on spot, and we rushed to the hospital those who sustained injuries," Abigaba said.

While the lorry had no major damage, the Toyota Noah was mangled beyond repair.
The Police are investigating the cause of the accident and the vehicle wreckages have been towed to Ndekye headquarters of Rubirizi Police Station.

According to an eye witness, Margaret Kemigisha, a food vendor at Rutoto trading centre, the deceased were knocked by a fast moving lorry and they died on spot.

"The teachers were returning to Kasese along the Mbarara-Kasese high way in the evening," Kemigisha said. 

The deceased include Ziada Moshi, Hannington Atuhaire,  Priva Tumukunde, Thembo Sylvester and Tamari Atuzarirwe.

Robert Tumusiime, the deputy head teacher at Pearls primary school said that the deceased teachers were traveling from Bushenyi district where they had gone to attend a Speech Day event at Pearls Junior School, their sister school.

Tumusiime identified the two injured teachers as Thomas Kule, Prossy Kanyere, who are being treated at Kampala International University teaching hospital in Bushenyi.

"The school is in shock after losing five teachers at the time when we are winding up the academic year.

Some of the deceased teachers were compiling end of term reports for the learners.

Pearl School is located in Kilembe quarters in central division Kasese municipality with another sister school located in Bushenyi district were the teachers were coming from.
