ICC World Cricket League Division Three

‎9-19 November, 2018

Tuesday

Uganda v Kenya

MUSCAT - Irfan Mohammed Afridi is quite phenomenal in many eyes of Uganda cricket fans.

A standing ovation at last year's ICC World Cricket League Division Three on home soil for his century was a genuine gesture, towards a man who would  go on to impress in the resultant international events.

He was, but now no more a much anticipated hero at the ongoing ICC World Cricket League Division Three in Oman.

A subject of suspect bowling in Uganda's opening game, a 5 wicket win over Denmark he has been suspended from bowling by an ICC expert panel!

The Cricket Cranes camp woke up to this sad news Tuesday as they prepared to face neighbors and rivals Kenya with the two sides in must win situations of sorts both having lost to the United States.

Experts Mark King and Andrea Gutti both from the ICC Human Movement Specialists forum conducted a review of Afridi after his short spell against Denmark where he was bowled only one over.

The review exercise found that the amount of elbow extension in the player's bowling action was above the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted by ICC regulations.

Afridi,a nephew to Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi despite being suspended from bowling, he can stay on the side for other responsibilities.

However his situation becomes more complicated further as he will have to attend ICC accredited centres for some sort of remedial procedure.

It is important to note that he was the best bowler at last year's division three in Uganda, division four in Malaysia 2018 and ICC World T20 Africa B Qualifier 2018 in Rwanda.

With the star player out of the picture in his natural position, it remains to be seen how the Cricket Cranes will cope up without his services and yes his trademark starfish celebration.
