In recent years, Uganda has vigorously developed the power infrastructure and promoted industrialization of the country. The development of electricity market has great demand for power equipment products. However, due to the poor industrial foundation of the country, there are hardly any production of power equipment and they need to be imported with large quantities of foreign exchange from abroad every year. Based on this, China Guangdong Shineng Electric Equipment Group invested in Uganda in 2012 to produce transformers, switchgear and other power equipment. By opening factories in Uganda, it strived to localize power equipment in Uganda, meet the demand of electricity market in Uganda and make contribution to industrialization in Uganda.
Guangdong Shineng Electric Equipment Group Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Shineng") is a professional company integrating electric equipment production, sales, and design, investment, construction and operation of power plants. We focused on fi elds of foreign investment, foreign trade and foreign engineering contracting. In 2010, Shineng built the 70 MW TORORO oil-fired power plant, the largest heavy oil power plant in Uganda so far, owned by ELECTRO-MAXX in Uganda by EPC contract. It was completed and put into operation in only nine months and has been operated and maintained by Shineng ever since. Thereafter, in November 2012, Shineng and Ugandan partner established ORION TRANSFORMERS and ELECTRICS LIMITED, which is the fi rst Sino-Uganda joint venture. It plans to invest $100 million in Orion Electric Equipment Industrial Park, to achieve annual output value of $500 million, providing 5,000 jobs.
