Big Strikers ceased operation in 2013

Big Strikers which ceased operation in 2013 following a disagreement with boxing governing body Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) governing body is set to return to local boxing after the two buried their differences and agreed to work together.

UPBC president Salim Uhuru and Big Strikers directors Geoffrey Kasule, Emmanuel Mwesigwa and Benjamin Mukasa held a media briefing at Old Kampala to announce the truce.

"UPBC cannot exist without promotion companies, but it is my responsibility to guide them in the boxing operation. That is why we had to sit on the table," Uhuru said.

"The infighting does not promote boxing and we have to work together if we are to lift the sport back to its past glory," he added.

Kasule said he was pleased with the newfound understanding and vowed to organise regular quality fights for Ugandan boxers.

"We are back and we intend to have our first fight in January on Liberation Day, but thereafter, we shall line up a number of fights," Kasule said.

Mwesigwa added that his company is "bringing Las Vegas to Kampala" and that boxers should be prepared to reap big

"Boxing promotion is a business. We are here to make money and also help boxers earn money," Mwesigwa said, before adding that he will soon unveil the boxers they are going to promote soon.

Big Strikers ceased operation in 2013 after the Sula Ssegawa fight against Congolese Herve Zongo.
