Winning this year's MX125cc overall trophy is out of her hands, but getting a podium finish is a dream Sharifah Kateete cannot let go.
This is why the female rider has vowed to give boys a run for their money on Sunday during the seventh round of the Mountain Dew National motocross championship at Victoria Racing track Garuga.
The Kyadondo Secondary School student is currently in third position with 209 points, 99 behind second placed Alestair Blick, but also 78 ahead of fourth placed Paddy Blick (131pts).
"I cannot win the Championship this year, because it is between bobo (Ali Omar) and Alestair, but I'm not giving away the third position to anyone," She said.
Sharifa has been a thorn in the foot for male riders and holding the third position is by merit.
However, her father Abdul Kateete is worried that the daughter has not had enough training due to a busy school programme.
"I am confident she can make it and that is why I bought her a better bike," Kateete said.
Omar leads the championship with 334points, 36 ahead of Alestair Blick and Sharifah (209) in third position.
Swanswi Sambo, Paddy Blick and Sophia Nakayiza are the other riders in that class.
