The Uganda women's team put up a decent perfomance Thursday at the 43 chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia.

The ladies played their hearts out in round nine against Bostwana in a must win game that unfortunately ended in a draw.

Uganda lost on board one and two and won on board three and four. Youngster Gloria Nansubuga and Shakira Ampaire were the key players.

Currently, the team has eight points from nine rounds with a possibility of winning two more games and scooping the much coveted category prize of 12 points. Meanwhile, with two games left to end of the campaigns, Uganda's men's team is in a difficult position.

The team has had individual wins, but has failed to carry that form to the team.

On an individual basis, Fide Masters (FMs) Patrick Kawuma and Haruna Nsubuga have led the team performance with six and four points respectively, while International Master (IM) Aurthur Ssegwanyi, Walter Okas and Shadrack Kantinti have managed to secure 4pts, 3pts and 1 pt each after round nine of the games.

Uganda's team that was placed 92 before round nine has dropped to position 114 out of 150 countries participating at the 2018 chess Olympiad.

The team has collected 7pts from nine games so far.
