Tuskerlite NBL Playoffs
Best-of-seven
Game one
Betway Power 85
City Oilers 66
Game Two
Friday
Betway Power went cruising past defending champions City Oilers 85-66 in game one of the best-of-seven series final Wednesday at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
Joseph Ikong was the main pillar as Betway Power put up a derring-do performance in their bid to break the Oilers' four year grip on the title.
Ikong who has always painted a picture of what might have been an even greater player if he worked harder sunk in a game best 24 points to undermine his opposite number Jimmy Enabu on 15 points.
It is quite uncharacteristic for the defending champions to lose with a margin this big (19 poinst) and certainly questions of a lack of enough motivation this season.
When the two sides met in the regular season, they drew 1-1 and interestingly it was an 8 point difference in both occasions.
The moneyed Oilers did not show much of their usual character in a very crucial game one.
As Betway Power lead, the fans have started to dream of a new champion for it had become a one man show of sorts for four consecutive years.
Geoffrey Soro weighed in with 14 points for Betway Power who should win game two on Friday to create a good ground. On the other hand Josh Johnson had 13 points for the Oilers who will look to level the series in game two.
It is important to remember that the Oilers came from 1-0 down to stop KIU in the semifinals of the playoffs.
