National Teacher Colleges receive financial boost from Belgium

Although access to education has substantially increased over the years, there is a growing concern on the declining quality of education due to the massive influx of students in existing schools.

In this context, providing teachers capable of delivering high quality education is crucial to improving the education sector and fulfilling sustainable development goal  four which is "To ensure equitable and inclusive quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all"

It is upon this background that  the Ministry of Education and Sports decided to team up with the Belgian Development Agency and Enabel to set up the Teacher Training Education (TTE) project.

The TTE project aims at improving the quality of secondary teacher education by strengthening the professional competencies of teacher trainers and future teachers graduating from the five National Teachers' Colleges (NTCs) which include Mubende, Kaliro, Kabale, Unyama and Muni.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Sports through the TTE project, together with Belgian Development Agency and Enabel held a function in Bugolobi, Kamplala where the official signing of the NTC grant was signed.

All the five National Teacher Colleges were represented and were led by Benjamin Turyhikayo the Head of Principals  Forum of National Teachers Colleges.

Turyhikayo started by thanking the Belgians and Enabel for the equipment that has so far been given to NTCs. "Lectures and staff have been enabled to access information easily. In total the colleges have received 46 computers, 26 laptops, 11 cameras, 10 printers and 61 I pads each." Turyhikayo says

Turyhikayo's speech was followed by Ms. Christelle Jocquet's speech. Jocquet is the Enabel Resident Representative in Uganda. She revealed that each NTC is going to receive sh107m and this period is on for 2 years.  Finally the representatives of the NTCs went ahead to sign for the grant.
