Five arrested over theft of guns from Police post

One of the stolen AK47 guns was recovered on Wednesday morning from a pub in Kitgum Municipality

 

Police in Lamwo district has arrested five people in connection with the theft of four guns from Agoro Police Post armoury in Agoro sub county.

The unknown people stole four guns; a PK machine gun and three AK47 guns on Monday night. One of the guns has since been recovered.

The stolen PK is registered UG POL 256 399 while the three AK47s are registered AK47 POL 563619898, AK47 UG POL 051 48-07506 and AK47 UG POL 5659019553-30643.

The incident led to arrest of Police officers who were on duty that day, a crime preventer as well as the wife of one of the Police officers.

Patrick jimmy Okema, the Aswa Region Police spokesperson identified the officers in detention as Cpl Yerusa Mundura, the officer in charge Agoro Police Post, Police constables Evelyn Aguminatwe, Zachariah Muya and his wife Janet Aol as well as former crime preventer Erickson Ojok.

Okema said the suspects are being detained at Bana-Bana UPDF detach in Madi Opei sub county in Lamwo district to help with investigations.

Okema said the stolen AK47 gun registration number UG POL 5659019553-30643 with 30 rounds of ammunition was recovered at about 2:00am on Wednesday morning from a pub in East Ward A, Kitgum Municipality.

He said unidentified thug tried to rob the owner of the pub, identified as Scovia Ayaa, but she resisted, and grabbed the gun from him before he fled the scene.

Okema said the case of attempted robbery was registered under SD 04/19/09/2018 at Kitgum Central Police Station while the case of gun theft was registered under CRB 109/2018  at Lamwo Central Police Station.

He asked the public to be vigilant and report any persons suspected to be in possession of guns to Police and other local authorities.

Okema said Police will work together with other security agencies to recovered the other three guns at large.
