Traffic lights off, Police steps in

Sep 05, 2018

Wednesday morning, the lights at the Nakawa Lugogo By-Pass junction were off.

City traffic lights are meant to work for 24-hours a day to easy the flow of traffic, according to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)  head of public and corporate affairs Peter Kauju.

However, lights at the several junctions in Kampala often go off leading to chaos. Wednesday morning, the lights at the Nakawa Lugogo By-Pass junction were off. It was the same situation at the Namirembe road - Bakuli junction.

Drivers and riders were often seen colliding with each other at the junction as they tried to drive through the heavy traffic.

What traffic police says

Traffic Police spokesperson Charles Ssebambulidde explained that KCCA is responsible for the traffic lights.

He added that the will monitor streets and deploy more officers to control the traffic as they wait for KCCA to work on the lights.

Efforts to get a comment from KCCA were futile, as they were not picking up calls.
