Promoting job creation, green growth, inclusive economy and value addition

A new sustainable, integrated agricultural model has been introduced in the country through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The model was officially launched by His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on 12th August 2018 during celebrations to mark International Youth Day.

In launching the Songhai model site, H.E. Museveni said, "This model reminds us to go back to our indigenous knowledge to boost our agriculture. It improves yields by using a method that is healthier for the soil. I am therefore launching it as a new science for us to practi se." UNDP Uganda, in its current five year Country Programme which started in 2016 identified innovative approaches such as the Songhai model through south-south and triangular cooperation.

The Songhai model is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MoGLSD) - through the Uganda Green Incubation Programme (UGIP). It's aimed at supporting Government to modernize and increase agricultural productivity; address youth unemployment and foster sustainable inclusive green growth.
