KAMPALA - Uganda National U-17 team (Cubs) thrashed Djibouti 8-0 to qualify for the semifinals of the CAF U17 Regional Qualifiers in Tanzania.

This was the third consecutive victory for the Cubs.

Earlier, they beat Kenya and South Sudan 3-1 and 6-1 respectively after going down 1-0 to Ethiopia in their opening game.

Yiga Najib and Ibrahim Juma notched a hat trick and double respectively for the Cubs.

Iddi Abdul Wahid, Thomas Kakaire and Davis Ssekajja scored the other goals for the national side.

Uganda finished second in group A with nine points, three points behind leaders Ethiopia while hosts Tanzania topped group B with nine points, three above second placed Rwanda.

Uganda will face Tanzania in the first semifinal while Ethiopia will play Rwanda in the second semifinal scheduled for this Friday.

The winner of the tourney will represent the CECAFA region in the finals of the Africa U17 Cup of Nations in May next year.
