Uganda to engage in inaugural East Africa Community Games

BUJUMBURA - Uganda will be out to meet teams, Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Burundi at the first edition of the East Africa Community Games scheduled for August 16-29.

A contingent of 170 was flagged off on Wednesday by the National Council of Sports Chairperson, Bosco Onyik who has urged athletes to stage a very good perfomance at the games.

The two-week long event has attracted confirmations from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and hosts, Burundi where karate, boxing, tennis, netball, rugby 7's athletics, volleyball and football will be enjoyed.

Speaking at the sendoff of team Uganda at the NCS headquarters, Onyik requested all the athletes to perform well since it is the first tournament.

"I urge all athletes to do their because everything they do will be in record and all medals won at the event will mean much to them and the country because this is the first event," said Onyik.

Uganda will compete in football, volleyball, athletics, tennis and boxing for both men and women while rugby and netball will be represented by men and women respectively.
