Lira hospital stranded with unclaimed bodies

A commuter taxi registration number UBB 849P that was traveling from Mbale to Lira overturned at Awiodyek, about 16km to Lira town killing two people on the spot and left a dozen with injuries.

 

ACCIDENT

Lira Regional Referral Hospital is stranded with two unclaimed bodies of travelers who died in a motor accident on Lira - Soroti road on Monday evening.

Hospital authorities said the bodies, one identified as that of Martin Magomu of Kirwala village in Kiryandongo district and another with no identities have been preserved and are being kept waiting for their relatives to claim.

The injured were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, some in critical condition including a UPDF officer identified as Lt. Moses Ojok.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior nursing officer at Lira Hospital said the soldier who was in critical condition was transferred to Gulu Military hospital by the army when they were alerted. 

The OC traffic Joel Mukembo who was misanthropic said the driver of the ill-fated taxi is on the run. He scornfully said they have not yet identified the cause of the accident. He did not give details.

The vehicle was towed and is still parked at Lira Central Police Station.  

The regional spokesperson David Ongom said he did not have details. "When I visited the traffic office on Friday, they were still compiling the file,' he said.
