Kenya beats Uganda to Victoria Cup again

Kenya registered one of the biggest wins over Uganda as they completed a hat-trick of Victoria Cup wins over their neighbours at the Vetlab Golf Club in Nairobi on Saturday.

Kenya garnered 19.5 points to Uganda's 6.5 over three days of action in five rounds, to claim the cup for the third time in a row following earlier victories at Muthaiga and Entebbe Golf Clubs in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Uganda could only find solace in the day-three singles matches where they won four matches, but the damage had already been done in the first round foursomes and four-ball-better-ball action where Kenya won 4-0, 4-0 (8-0pts).

Uganda's David Kamulindwa, Martin Ochaya, Abraham Ainamani won their games against Isaac Makokha, Zubhair Khan and Paul Muchangi; 5&4, 6&5 and 3&1 respectively with Ronald Rugumayo and Joseph Cwinya-ai picking a half point each against Dennis Saikwa and Mutahi Kibugu.

In the day-two foursomes, Rugumayo and Cwinya-ai had shared the spoils with Isaac Makokha and Mike Kisia while Richard Baguma and Rodwel Gaita had registered a, 1up over Paul Muchangi and Agil Is Haq, which was still short by 3.5 points on the day.

After the second day's action Uganda was trailing by 10 points with Uganda's team manager Moses Masiko blaming Uganda's dismal outing on the fast greens and was hoping for a quick recovery but it didn't come.

"They did a double cut on the greens the previous night bringing the speed from 7.5 to 11.5 and also they used a similar colour of flags yet we have been practicing on the usual red, yellow and white which particularly confused all the boys on approach shots and eventually we lost,"  Masiko lamented.

Uganda will host the next edition of the rotational championship next year.
