WAKISO- The outgoing Wakiso town council Clerk, Cox Ssempebwa, has asked the district chief administrative officer, Luke Lokuda, to elevate the senior town clerks to municipal councils.

Ssempebwa made the remarks during his hand over of Wakiso town council office to Livingstone Kasibante on Friday last week.

Ssempebwa has moved to Kasanje town council and said that he should be promoted with other people like Paddy Kakumba who were moved to Katabi and James Mayanja who was dropped in the recent town clerk reshuffle.

"The chief administrative officer should think of elevating some of us to municipal level so that young people can come in and take over these town councils," said Ssempebwa.

He pointed out that he has already served as a town clerk for seven years and he now wants to become a deputy principal town clerk.

He expressed his happiness to have served as town clerk at Wakiso town council for over two years.

He, however, pointed out that he faced a lot of challenges when he had just been deployed at the town council, saying he first served under trees because Paddy Kakumba had refused to hand over office to him.

He added that by the time he took over office, the workers had deserted their offices and he had to do a lot of things like providing for them lunch in order to attract them back.

He asked Wakiso town council workers to work as a team so that they develop the town council and promised his support to the incoming town clerk, Livingstone Kasibante.

"I have given you the office without any bias and feelings and I wish you success as you serve the people of Wakiso town council," said Ssempebwa.

It should be remembered that Ssempebwa one time resisted transfer and sought support from the councillors and also involved the land commission.

He alleged that he was being changed from Wakiso town council because they wanted to grab land and he was restated by the commission.

The incoming town clerk, Livingstone Kasibante, promised to work with everyone in order to strengthen what Ssempebwa has left in place.

He appealed to all the town council workers to work as a team.

He also hailed Ssempebwa for handing over office to him peacefully.

Kasibante, however, warned Wakiso town council workers against corruption, saying he needs to see people getting services.
