A total of 23 supporters of MP-elect for Bugiri municipality, Asuman  Basalirwa have been released on police bond four days after their arrest.

The 23 supporters had been picked up from Planet Hotel in Naluwerere trading centre by Police officers after they were suspected of inciting violence before JEEMA president Asuman Basalirwas rally.

The Police said it acted on intelligence information that the 23 were planning to incite people to cause violence on the day Basalirwa, NRM flag-bearer, Francis Oketcho and FDC's Eunice Namatende were to hold their rallies.

The supporters were transferred to Iganga central police station and Tororo as a result of lack of space at Bugiri central police station.

Basalirwa said he suspected that one of his opponents could have masterminded the arrests in order to sabotage his last campaign rally.

The regional Police commander Busoga east, Ibrahim Saiga, said the Police was still carrying out investigations and will take action when necessary.
