Finishing second in the Pearl of Africa Uganda rally earned Uganda's Jas Mangat a second position on the table of the the Africa rally Championship (ARC) with 33 points.

The Kenyan rally Crew of Manvir Baryan and Drew Sturrock won the event for the second time to stay top of the standings with 75 points.

The crew in Skoda Fabia R5 lost a total time of two hours,26.03 minutes beating Ronald Ssebuguzi and Leon Shenyang (two hours,30.11minutes) and the crew of Jas Mangat and Joseph Kamya in Mitsubishi Evo10 who finished second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Uganda's Mangat who finished second in the ARC category climbed the table standings to second position raising hope of winning the continental crown.

To win the ARC, Mangat now has to win the remaining two events, the rally of Tanzania and Rwanda Mountain Gorilla rally and hopes that Manvir drops out in both.

NRC gets tight

In the National Rally championship (NRC) category, three time champion Ronald Ssebuguzi emerged winner to collect maximum 140 points that take him to 290 points and tosecond position on table.

The win boosted Ssebuguzi's hopes of winning the fourth NRC title.

"It was a tight competition, but we tried our best and finished second overall, though we had wanted a win." Ssebuguzi said.

"It is good we are back in the NRC contest after moving to second position on the standings and we shall target better results to win the two remaining events," the three time NRC champion said.

Mangat finished third, International University of East Africa (IUEA) driver Hassan Alwi finished fourth, while female driver Suzan Muwonge finished fifth.

Twenty-two drivers out of the 47 crews finished the two-day event that doubles as the fifth round of the NRC and ARC.
