Nine schools are set to compete in the annual NSSF KAVC National Primary Schools Volleyball championship at Samaritan Primary School in Namugongo on Sunday.
The tournament is a build up to the NSSF KAVC International Volleyball tournament due next month. The schools include the hosts Samaritan Primary School, St James Primary School, Rema Junior School, and Yudesi Primary School.
The rest are SOS children's home, Pichill Primary School, African Children's Choir, Superior Junior School and Sunrise Primary School.
With the main objective of the tournament being nurturing talent, Levian Ashaba one of the organisers believes the NSSF KAVC Primary Schools Championship is on the right path.
"Our goal is to spread the word in the community to encourage everyone to come down and cheer on these phenomenal athletes. They have been training hard this season leading to the event. Primary Schools Volleyball has grown tremendously over the past couple of years with over 30 Primary schools playing in the country," stated Ashaba.
In the boys' category, stiff competition is expected to come from St James Junior School from Entebbe, hosts Samaritan Primary School and Sunrise Primary School.
St James Junior School has had a good run this year that has seen them defeat its closest rivals Samaritan and Sunrise at different engagements.
On the other hand, Superior Junior School will be seeking to reclaim their title at this championship in the girls' category.
The top two teams in each category will qualify for the finals that will be played on August 5 at Lugogo. The one-day tournament is sponsored by NSSF who are the main sponsors of NSSF KAVC International Tournament.
Lilliane Mutungi, NSSF brand & marketing officer said teams that attend will all receive NSSF goodies and also promised further partnership with other volleyball events including the primary competitions.
