Senior golfers for Mbarara Golf Challenge

Jackson Karyarugokwe, the chairman of the Seniors Golf Association told the press that the one-day event was an open one to all amateur golfers.

Over 60 senior golfers are among a field of about 120 golfers expected to compete for various prizes in the Senior Golfing Society's (SGS) Mbarara Golf Challenge on July 21 at Mbarara Sports Club.

Jackson Karyarugokwe, the chairman of the Seniors Golf Association told the press that the one-day event was an open one to all amateur golfers in the different categories from across the country and Rwanda.

He said the event has been fully sponsored by individual senior golfers including Charles Kagombe and Ambrose Akadonda who have provided a bull each for the after party.

Another senior golfer, John Nasasira has met the cost of all the playing T-shirts on the day, while John Byabagambi has contributed sh2m for the event. Jolly Karemera and Moses Turyatemba have also contributed sh1m each while Chris Mutegyeki has offered to make an upgrade on the course's bunkers by providing sand.

Godfrey Onyango the secretary of the SGS said up to 28 prizes in trophies and electricals will be given out in the different categories.

"Mbarara is ready for us, all amenities are in place and all amateur golfers should come and enjoy the game and the fun after the tournament," Onyango said.

There will be three overall winners in the seniors, men and ladies categories with other prizes going to the different outstanding players in the subsidiary categories.

The event is one of four tournaments that the seniors aged 55 years and above organize in different clubs across the country. The seniors will compete in three categories with outstanding players receiving prizes in the 55-60, 61-65, 66-70 and the 71+ year's categories while the ladies above 55 years will compete as seniors in the ladies category.
