Lwanga positive at CECAFA Kagame club championship

Vipers Sports Club captain, Tadeo Lwanga is optimistic his side will continue to put up a  stellar performance in the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Tanzania.

 

Lwanga made the remarks after Vipers beat South Sudanese side, Kator FC 3-0 at the Tanzania National stadium in Dar-es-Salaam to progress to the quarterfinals.

 

"We are here to work. The more games you win the more bonuses you get.

 

"We are going back on the drawing board to prepare for any opponent who will come our way,"Lwanga said.

 

Duncan Seninde, Steven Mukwala and Yayo Lutimba each had a goal as Vipers progressed to the last eight.

 

This was Vipers' first victory in the competition having settled to 1-1 draws with Zanzibar's JKU (Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi Sports Club) and defending champions Azam in their last two games of Group A.

 

The Venoms came second in the group with five points, two below leaders Azam.

 

Competition will be among  Gor Mahia fc (Kenya), Rayon Sport (Rwanda), AS Port (Djibouti) and Lydia Ludic (Burundi). Whoever finishes top of group B will face Vipers in the knock out stage on Sunday.

 

The 2017/ 2018 Azam Uganda premier league champions last took part in this tournament in 2011 losing to Tanzanian based Simba SC at the quarter finals.

 

It will be the second time vipers will be playing at this level with the CAF Champions League awaiting them next season.

 

The event that was last held in 2015 saw Azam beat Gor Mahia in the final 2-0.
