Watooto, Buddo win National 3x3 Basketball Tour

KAMPALA - Buddo SS and Watoto Hoops beat Seeta Main Campus boys and girls teams in the final to win the first edition of the FIBA 3X3 national basketball tour, at KIU court on Saturday.

Buddo dominated the girls' final under the inspiration of Ajah Kur, Jane Asinde, Shakira Nanvubya and Bernadette Namwenge, winning 19-5 with Said Hadija, Agatha Kamwada, Emily Nerima Katrina and Hamis Sania offering little resistance.

Watoto who edged Seeta by a point, 13-12 in the boys final had Michael Ssematimba, Vincent Mubiru, Daniel Muganzi and Moses Mukalazi to thank for the slim win against Seeta's Amin Mkosa, David Mayom, Jamal Gabriel and Mahfudh Simba.

En-route to the final, Watoto had beaten Emma High 8-5 in the quarter finals and eliminated JOVOC 9-4 in the semifinals while Seeta had seen off Kisaasi  8-7 and Crane High Blazers 13-11 in the quarter and semifinals respectively.

Buddo girls beat Nabisunsa Spurs 9-4 and St. Noah Jewels 11-16 before clinching the championship while the runners up registered uniform 13-8 wins over Crane High and Watoto Sparks in the quarter and semis.

This is the second year that Uganda has been running the U-18 and the U-23 3x3 continuation programs.


The objective of the programme is to develop 3x3-basketball in the country, talent identification, 3x3 promotion and increase the federation ranking in the FIBA World Ranking.


Apart from players specialising in the 3x3 format of the game, the tournament is also aimed at helping national federations prepare a competitive team to qualify and successfully participate in future Olympic Games.
