KAMPALA - Lady Justice Jessica Naiga Ayebazibwe of the Family Division of the High Court has died at the age of 53.
"The judge spent the best part of Monday in town shopping in preparation for her daughter's introduction, which was supposed to happen this weekend," said Solomon Muyita, the Judiciary communications officer.
"She returned and happily displayed the items they had bought to her husband. She, however, mentioned that she felt weak and tired, asked for a cup of tea and later proceeded to bed.
"When they checked on her at 8:00pm, she was not well. She was rushed to Malcom Clinic, where she was pronounced dead," Muyita added.
Naiga had 26 years of legal practice and her legacy will live on in the minds of her family and legal fraternity.
Her body was taken to Mengo Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Tributes continue to flow for the fallen judge.
"I send my prayers to her family and friends. May her soul rest in eternal peace," Justine Kasule Lumumba, the NRM secretary general, posted on Twitter.
"Our condolences go to the family of the late Justice Jessica Naiga and The Judiciary. It is so sad. RIP Justice Naiga," read a message from Ugandan lawyers.
