Seals Invitational to attract biggest entry ever

KAMPALA - The fourth edition of the Seals Invitational swimming gala is expected to attract its biggest entry ever when the competition takes off at Kampala Parents School pool, July 5-8.
 
According to Seals Club's secretary, Rachael Kituuka, the three-day event shall build on the gains made over the previous three years by attracting a large number of swimmers and also pushing swimmers to give their best in the events they are participating in.
 
The gala will be held under the theme "Bigger, Better, Faster."
 
"We expect new records to be made by the swimmers following the progress they have made since July 2015," Kituuka said.
 
 The Seals Invitational and League meets over the last three and half years have spurred the growth of numerous new clubs in Uganda and has seen several individual swimmers improve.
 
Seals swim club won last year's edition with 1,101 points followed by Dolphins swim club who came a close second with 1,094 as Makerere University Swim team finished third with 150 points.
 
Centenary bank, the main sponsors of the event have committed sh40m to the event that normally attracts foreign teams from Kenya.
 
Aga Khan High School Nairobi, USIU from Nairobi, and PIPSA are regular competitors alongside several local clubs such as Baseline, Dolphins, Gliders, Makerere University, Seagulls Swim Club, Sailfish swim club and Altona among others.
 
The championship encompasses a unique format, with the swimmers engaged in preliminaries before the finals, the same that they encounter at international championships like the African Common wealth and World Championships.
 
Medals will be competed for in age groups starting with 10 and below, 11-12,13-14, 15 & over. A medal ceremony shall be held each afternoon to award the day's winners. The trophies and final age group winners' trophies shall be awarded at the end of the event that conludes on Sunday.
