KAMPALA - KCCA has called for drastic changes in the management of the Uganda Premier League if the competition is to keep its credibility.
Appearing before the ongoing FUFA Commission of Inquiry into football officiation, KCCA chairman, Aggrey Ashaba said basic refereeing guidelines were abused.
Flanked by club CEO, Josephine Namukisa at Ivy's Hotel, Wakaliga on Monday, Ashaba said particular referees handled back-to- back games of some clubs.
Ashaba who served on the referees appointment committee in the 2016/2017 season opined that there was a general outcry about refereeing.
This, he noted, was partly because the current referees; management team seemed not to adhere to basic guidelines in the handbook.
Ashaba dug deep into his knowledge of match officiation to point out numerous flaws and suggested remedies.
The KCCA Chairman complained that the federation never responds to their formal complaints. He also pointed out games in which his team was victim and tendered in video evidence.
Bright Stars F.C, CEO Mathias Mugwanya, Head Coach Fred Kajoba and his assistant Paul Kiwanuka also appeared before the commission and shared their experience with referees.
The Bright Stars team made a passionate appeal to the commission to follow through their findings with recommendations to clean up the game.
On Wednesday, Paidha Black Engles and Kitara F.C CEOs will appear as the commission shifts attention to the Big League. Ntinda United Chairman, Frank Munyaneza is also expected.
The just concluded league was marred by complaints of biased officiation. Clubs complained that match officials were vulnerable to manipulation by some teams that use underhand methods to win games.
This prompted the commission that has seen various club officials appearing before the commission.
