Fast-forwarding Win, Wuhan University crowned overall dragon boat race champions

All teams raced in under two minutes in a closely contested competition but, in the end Fast forwarding from Mayuge district were declared winners among the Ugandan competing teams.

Mayuge district Fast forwarding and shipping company Ltd and Wuhan University's dragon boat racing team proved too strong for their competitors as they win Uganda's second dragon boat festival race.

Ten teams from Uganda and thirteen Chinese teams entered the competition held on Saturday, June 16, at the Uganda wildlife education center.

All teams raced in under two minutes in a closely contested competition but, in the end Fast forwarding from Mayuge district were declared winners among the Ugandan competing teams.

The team crossed the finishing line in 1.06.73 micro seconds, in a 250 meters sprint. A1 Beach from Jinja came second in 1:08:40 micro seconds and the Entebbe B team was third finishing their race in 1.11.06 micro seconds.

Wuhan University student's dragon boat team lifted the overall trophy at the end of the competition having raced 1.02.77 micro seconds the best posted time in the entire competition.  

The State Miniter for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Godfrey Kiwanda says next year together with the  organizers, they are looking at having an East African team as they aim to expand the sport to promote Uganda as a leading sport/tourism destination.

Uganda is only the second country in Africa after South Africa to hold the dragon boat festival.
