KIREKA - National Council of Sports (NCS) assistant General Secretary,David Katende has said that they are in plans to revive district Sports Associations to be able monitor and nurture talents from the grass root.
Katende disclosed this in his speech before officially opening the one week National Tutors' Training course organised by Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) at Sports View Hotel in Kireka on Tuesday.
The Leadership and Excellence in Athletics programme (LEAP) is in Partnership with UAF, UK Sports, British Athletics and IAAF.
He also urged the sports Federations to create clear athlete pathway from grass root to elite level.
"We are working a program starting 2018/2019 budget to re-activate district sports Associations, get district sports officers and vigorous embark on grass root capacity building," Katende said.
Katende added that capacity building and addressing root challenges should made a priority in all sports sectors because Uganda has so many talents that are resourceful to this country.
"I want appeal to you to utilize the knowledge you get from these courses by taking it at the grass root and also appeal to federation to work on that pathway that nurtures talents from the grass root upto national level," Katende said.
The tutors undergoing training will go at the grass root levels to train the young athletes and other trainers so that in that process they interest the youth to join sports especially athletics.
UAF president Dominic Otuchet assured facilitator from British Athletics that UAF is committed to supporting the LEAP project because it helps them in identification and nurturing of talents.
