Catholics celebrate Feast of Corpus Christ

Yesterday all Catholic Churches in Uganda celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christ.   

It is is a Catholic liturgical solemnity celebrating the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in the Eucharist—known as transubstantiation. 

According to retired Bishop of Moroto Diocese, Henry Apaloryamam Ssentogo, on this day, Christians celebrate the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus.

He said the Feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated in Catholic Churches worldwide last Sunday, but since Uganda was celebrating Martyrs Day, the Episcopal Conference postponed the celebrations.  

The Prelate said the celebration emphasises the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, which was observed on Holy Thursday in the somber atmosphere of the nearness of Good Friday.

Ssentongo made the tribute yesterday at Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary Namasuba Catholic Parish, along Entebbe road, as the Parish marked 4th years of existence.

"The feast is designated the solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ," he said.

Also on this day, Christians celebrated the 4th anniversary of Namasuba parish and a fundraising drive to construct a house for the priest was held. 

Namasuba Parish was a sub-parish of Ndeeba Parish. But in 2014, Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga lifted it to a parish status.
