KIGALI - It was not quite a start to the Kwibuka Cricket Tournament that Uganda expected, two games, two losses for Rita Musamali and Co.

Hosts Rwanda rose to the occasion, defeating Uganda by 1 run with two balls to spare in a game of nerves Wednesday at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium.

Skipper Rita Musamali and Immaculate Nakisuyi scored 19 runs apiece in what was a low scoring innings. Sandra Achawo had opened with15 from 37 balls before she was bowled out.

Diane Bimenyimana scored a game best 23 from 25 balls as the hosts reached 82 after 19.4 overs.

In spite of Immaculate Nakisuyi's 34 from 17 balls against Kenya in game two, Kenya won by 6 wickets to spell a false start for Uganda in the T20 contest that is played on a round robin basis.

It is worth remembering that Uganda has always opted to take a young squad of girls that standout in the UCA Girls Schools Cricket Week to compete against other national women teams.
