The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) is investigating the Wakiso shooting on June 2 in which four soldiers were injured.

The incident took place at a camping site near Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, when Cpl. Joram Tumwesigye went on a shooting spree injuring four of his colleagues.

According to a source, the shooting resulted from an argument between the soldiers. It is alleged that other soldiers shot Tumwesigye to disable him, after he refused to surrender.

Speaking to New Vision on phone, the army spokesperson, Brig. Richard Karemire, said the alleged triggerman is undergoing medical attention at Bombo Military Hospital, while the other injured soldiers have been discharged.

"His colleagues received were treated for minor injuries and are back on duty. But Tumwesigye has not yet recovered and is still undergoing medication.

We are still waiting for him to recover but investigations are still ongoing to establish why he shot his colleagues," he added.

Karemire said it is still too early to know what charges or punishment Tumwesigye might face since investigations are still ongoing.
