One person feared dead as truck plunges into Karuma Falls

The driver of the truck registration number UAS 994Y lost control on Karuma Bridge, hit the guard rails and plunged into River Nile

One person is feared dead, after a Fuso truck plunged into Karuma Falls on River Nile, along the Gulu-Kampala Highway last evening. 

The truck was transporting logs. 

According to the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, the driver of the truck registration number UAS 994Y, lost control on Karuma Bridge, hit the guard rails and plunged into River Nile. 

Okema say the only survivor of the accident, one Adam Nabwiso has been rushed to Saint Mary's Hospital, Lacor.

Nabwiso suffered head injuries and a broken leg. 

Okema said the vehicle vanished from view with one unidentified occupant.

According to conflicting accounts the driver of the truck is Solomon Ocen from Amuc in Lira district, and he was heading to Bweyale in Kiryandongo district.   

Cases of road accidents have been rampant along the Gulu-Kampala Highway with eight cases reported in the last three weeks.
