US surgeons to carry out medical operations in Rakai district

The team had been cleared and certified by the Ministry of health in Uganda, to carry out medical treatment and operations.

FREE MEDICAL OPERATIONS

RAKAI- KOOKI- A team of nineteen medical workers from the United States of America (USA), on Friday arrived in Uganda where they are to spend ten days carrying out medical operations mainly on people of Rakai district in central Uganda.

A team that was led by Dr. John O'shea from Maryland USA under their umbrella 'Operation International', was received by the queen mother of Kooki chiefdom Rebecca Tulituuka, Sir. Herbert Nsubuga, the minister of general duties, Eve Kakembo the health minister in Kooki, among other dignitaries.

According to Lt. Dr. Margaret Kiyimba, the medical team was lobbied by Abaana Ba Africa (ABA) foundation, where she acts as a country director.

"This is the second time, a team from Operation International is coming to Uganda and last time they came in April last year, where over three thousand medical operations were carried out," said Mrs. Kiyimba.

Mrs. Eve Kakembo, the health minister in Kooki, said the team had already been cleared and certified by the Ministry of health in Uganda, to carry out medical treatment and operations. 

"This time, the team will be limited to carry out operations other than those of the abdomen and reproduction-related complications," said the Kooki health minister.

Dr. John O'shea a team leader from Operation International said the team will be limited to carrying out only surgical operations.
