Museveni, who is also the NRM chairperson, disclosed that under multiparty politics, decisions are taken from a party round table where opposition leaders are non-members.

President Yoweri Museveni has said voting members of the opposition to Parliament is useless and will retard development.

Museveni was addressing people of Nyakishenyi sub-county in Rukungiri district. The president is in the district to canvass votes for the NRM flag-bearer in the Rukungiri Woman MP by-elections Winfred Masiko.

Masiko who had been elected in the 2016 general elections lost a petition in the Court of Appeal recently after court declared that there were irregualries in her election and ordered for fresh elections.

Her archrival who petitioned court, Bamukwatsa Muzaniara is a member of the opposition Forum for the Democratic Change.

The president addressed four rallies in Nyakishenyi, Nyarushanje, Buyanja and Kebisoni sub-counties.

The President said an opposition MP will resist the government programmes at the expense of the people’s demands.

Museveni, who is also the NRM chairperson, disclosed that under multiparty politics, decisions are taken from a party round table where opposition leaders are non-members.

He, therefore called upon Rukungiri people to vote Hon Winfred Masiko, an official NRM flag-bearer on Thursday.  “I am here to ask you to vote Winfred Masiko. Why? She is NRM and the FDC candidate won't take you anywhere,”, the president said.

He further warned voters against sectarian politics based on religions or tribes, warning that such practices were partly the major reasons for the chaotic scenes in the past regimes. He also called upon residents in different sub-counties to engage in household income generating projects

On her side, Masiko outlined several projects under implementation by her office and asked the people of Rukungiri to vote her for continuity of services in the district.

All rallies were attended and addressed by the Deputy Secretary General Hon Richard Todwong, Maj. Gen. (rtd) Jim Muhwezi, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde and Rubabo MP Hon Paula Turyahikayo.
