Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said the singer pleaded guilty and that he asked for forgiveness.

Pastor Kayanja defended Qute Kaye while addressing the congregation at his church during last night's 77 Days of Glory overnight prayers.

Quoting Kayanja from the televised address he said.

"Maybe he needed to go down that way so that God could get him up, because no rehab could help him. No advice could help. Nothing could help. But I am very sure he will rise up from this. He will come up a better person,"

"What he has been taking for granted, he will realize it was God's grace all along. And so, just pray for him,"

Qute Kaye, is among several musicians that have visited Kayanja's church for the 77 days of glory gathering.

When Qute Kaye visited the church he recommitted his life to Christ and took to the stage to sing gospel Storm is over by R. Kelly.

Qute Kaye in the previous year had converted to Islam upon visiting a mosque.

Several of Qute Kaye's friends and fellow musicians have too since taken to their social media platforms to defend the musican as well.

They attribute Qute Kaye's theft case to a mental break down, while others link it to a drug abuse problem, all pointing that the singer is not in his proper state of mind.

Qute Kaye came to limelight in 2006 after outing his first single, Ginkese, a song about betrayal. But about three years before that, he participated in the Coca Cola pop stars.

He then gave up on secular music and went on to sing for the church and doing karaoke at Sabrinas Pub and Garden City. In 2005, he competed for the Mr. Sabrina's Pub title and won.

Thereafter, he wrote a song, Mother Africa for the hip-hop canvas, which was nominated for best Ugandan hip-hop song the same year.

Early 2006, he returned from Europe where he had gone to develop some music and embarked on the Ginkese album, which propelled him into limelight.

In November 2011, Qute Kaye was rumoured to be dead. However, although he had been sick for a very long time, he was not dead and he recovered. He has not been active in the music industry since then.
